The USA took two gold medals as the new heroine of the red, white and blue, Mysty Hyman dethroned the reigning champion and local favorite Susie O'Neill. The women's 4 x 200m freestyle team also brought home the gold. When asked why, she told a tale of how the pool was full of Aussie fans and she wanted to show up the locals and give the few Americans in attendance something to remember! Gary Hall, Jr. captured a bronze medal behind a blazing fast record setting pace by Dutchman Peter Van den Hoogenband. |
