When the history books record the events of the 27th Olympic games, they
will make mention of some incredible athletic feats. The history records
will show that the city of Sydney did a fantsatic job hosting the games
and that the Opening Ceremonies were a spectacle for the ages. When it
comes times to record the closing ceremonies, history will make note of
two spectacular events.
To put out the Olympic Cauldron, SOCOG made arrangements with the
Australian Air Force to have an F-111 jet fly overhead at a height of only
300 meters, dump its fuel and ignite the stream. This was intended to
produce a fireball from the back of the plane for a lenght of 300 meters.
Frank and I heard rumors about this on the radio and wanted to find out
more. In the local Sydney newspaper was printed a projected schedule of
events for the closing ceremony routine. According to the paper, the
