Gymnastics

September 19, 2000

The first day drew to a close when we attended the Women's All Around Team Finals for Gymnastics at the SuperDome. I sat in one of the executive boxes with Billy Payne. For those who don't remember, Billy was the chairman of the Atlanta Olympic Committee and an all around nice guy. It just so happened that I was wearing an Atlanta Olympic shirt that night and Billy's first words to me were, "hi, I'm Billy Payne. Nice shirt!"

Unfortunately, the USA women's team didn't fare so well and ended with a fourth place non-medal finish. The perennial powerhouse, Romania took the gold.

Individual performances from the USA team showed some promise. I'd look for a possible medal in the solo competition.

The floor of the first level of the SuperDome has what appear to be random squiggly lines drawn all over it. If you look at them from above, you begin to see the different patterns.
