The final (and as issued) 1948 US stamp honoring the four chaplains who died on the SS Dorchester which was torpedoed in 1943 during WW II.
The stamp designer, Louis Schwimmer 1897 - 1995 is a family member, (great uncle of Shelly Schwimmer Gluck)
The Jewish chaplain honored on the stamp is also a family member, Chaplain Rabbi Alexander David Goode. He Married Theresa Flax, daughter of Nathan Flax and Rose Leah Yeolson (sister of Al Jolson).
